Classical Music: Music therapy for kids     25-May-07 01:07 pm
Hello,
I am a therapist working with adolescents who struggle with severe emotional issues i.e. Bereavement, OCD, Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, Autism, etc. I have been experimenting with using classical music in group therapy sessions. Unfortunately, I know very little about classical music, specifically the story behind the composition. At times I have played a compostion and have asked these young people what they hear and believe the composure was attempting to convey, other times I have played a piece which was written while the composer was experiencing great pain or confusion and used this as a lead in for a young person to relate this to their own experiences. I would be very grateful to those of you who could recommend compositions and the story behind the music. If anyone could recommend a site on the web that may have information along these lines I would also be very appreciative.
